Celebrating 2003
- May 1, 2002
To the Duquesne University Community:
Next year we will be celebrating
two significant events in the life of Duquesne
University. On Pentecost Sunday, June 8, 2003,
the Spiritans will be marking the 300th anniversary
of their founding as a religious community. October
1, 2003 will be the 125th year since the founding
of Duquesne University and the McAnulty College
and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.
In order to observe this remarkable convergence,
an Anniversaries Committee has been established,
led by Fr. Chris Promis, C.S.Sp. The calendar
year of 2003 will be the focus of our commemorations.
The Committee will create and coordinate activities
and special events during the year so that it
is marked by appropriate celebrations.
At present, special events are planned on Feb.
2nd (the anniversary of the death of Venerable
Francis Libermann) and on June 8th (Pentecost).
A special academic convocation is set for Oct.
1, as well as an exhibit at the Heinz History
Center from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15th. The Committee
expects that Anniversaries themes will also be
woven into standing annual events Homecoming,
Alumni Downtown Luncheon, Commencement, etc.
